VoIP is an acronym for Voice over Internet Protocol. As the name says, it is a technology that allows for transferring a voice signal over the Internet. In short, what happens is that an analog voice signal picked by a microphone is converted into a digital one. Then, on the other side, the digital voice signal is converted back to an analog one, so it can be heard on a speaker.
