Tello Mobile Plans & Pricing

Tello Mobile takes a different approach to wireless service than many traditional carriers. Instead of pushing customers toward large unlimited plans, Tello lets you choose how much data and talk time you actually need, with plans ranging from inexpensive options for light users to an unlimited plan for heavier smartphone use.

There are no annual contracts, plans renew every 30 days, and customers can upgrade or downgrade their service when their needs change. Unlimited text messaging is included with every Tello plan, while data and voice allowances can be selected separately through the company’s Build Your Own Plan system.

For customers who prefer an easy starting point, Tello also offers several ready-made plans. These currently range from the Starter plan with 2 GB of data to the Max plan with Unlimited data.

Tello Mobile Plans at a Glance

Tello’s most popular plans combine a set amount of high-speed data with unlimited talk and text. The lineup is simple enough to cover light, moderate, and heavy smartphone users without dozens of overlapping plan tiers.

Plan High-Speed Data Talk & Text Monthly Price
Starter 2 GB Unlimited Talk & Text $10/mo
Everyday 10 GB Unlimited Talk & Text $15/mo
Power 20 GB Unlimited Talk & Text $20/mo
Max Unlimited* Unlimited Talk & Text $25/mo

*Tello’s Unlimited plan currently includes 50 GB of high-speed data during each billing cycle. After the high-speed allowance is used, data remains available at reduced speeds. Prices, promotions, taxes, and plan terms may change.

Tello may also run promotional pricing for new lines. For example, the Everyday 10 GB plan is currently offered to eligible new lines at $10 per month for the first three months, after which the regular $15 monthly price applies. Because wireless promotions can change, check current pricing before ordering.

Tello Starter Plan – 2 GB

The Tello Starter plan is designed for people who spend most of their time connected to Wi-Fi and only need cellular data while away from home. It includes 2 GB of high-speed data along with unlimited talk and text for $10 per 30-day billing cycle.

Two gigabytes can be enough for email, messaging, maps, occasional web browsing, and light social media use. It is less suitable for frequent video streaming or heavy mobile hotspot use, which can consume the allowance quickly.

Best for: light smartphone users, children, seniors, secondary phones, and anyone who uses Wi-Fi for most data-intensive activities.

Tello Everyday Plan – 10 GB

The Everyday plan provides 10 GB of high-speed data with unlimited talk and text. At its standard price of $15 per month, it sits in the middle of Tello’s lineup and should provide enough data for many typical smartphone users.

Ten gigabytes gives you considerably more flexibility for social media, music streaming, navigation, web browsing, email, and occasional video. If you usually have Wi-Fi available at home and work but still use your phone regularly while away, this plan can offer a good balance between price and data.

Best for: everyday smartphone users who want more breathing room than a basic plan without paying for unlimited data.

Tello Power Plan – 20 GB

The Tello Power plan doubles the Everyday plan’s standard data allowance to 20 GB and includes unlimited talk and text for $20 per month.

This tier makes sense for people who frequently use mobile data but do not necessarily need an unlimited plan. Twenty gigabytes can accommodate regular music streaming, social networking, browsing, navigation, video calls, and some video streaming, although actual usage will depend heavily on video quality and other data-intensive activities.

Best for: active smartphone users, commuters, students, and customers who regularly use cellular data but want to keep their monthly bill low.

Tello Max Unlimited Plan

For heavier users, the Tello Max plan combines unlimited talk and text with Unlimited data for $25 per month. There is an important detail behind the word Unlimited, however: the plan currently provides 50 GB of high-speed data during each 30-day cycle. Once that high-speed allowance has been consumed, data remains available at reduced speeds.

The Unlimited plan also includes 10 GB of mobile hotspot data. That makes it useful for occasional laptop or tablet connections, although customers who regularly depend on a phone as their primary internet connection should keep the hotspot limit in mind.

Best for: heavier smartphone users who stream video, use social media frequently, rely on navigation, or simply do not want to monitor a smaller monthly data allowance.

Build Your Own Tello Plan

One of Tello’s biggest advantages is that you do not have to choose one of the four preconfigured plans. The Build Your Own Plan option lets you combine the amount of cellular data and voice minutes that makes sense for you.

Current data options include:

  • No data
  • 2 GB
  • 10 GB
  • 20 GB
  • Unlimited data

Voice choices include:

  • No minutes
  • 300 minutes
  • Unlimited minutes

Unlimited text messaging is included with every plan, including plans configured primarily for data or limited voice usage.

This flexibility makes Tello particularly appealing to customers whose usage does not fit the standard unlimited-plan model. Someone who mainly uses messaging and data, for example, does not need to pay for unlimited calling. Likewise, a basic phone used primarily for calls can be configured with little or no cellular data.

What Is Included With Tello Plans?

Low pricing does not necessarily mean a bare-bones plan. Tello includes several useful features across its wireless service.

  • 5G and 4G LTE access with a compatible device and network coverage
  • Unlimited text messaging with every monthly plan
  • Mobile hotspot and tethering included with data plans
  • Wi-Fi Calling on compatible devices
  • International calling to 60+ countries with qualifying voice plans
  • No annual service contract
  • No early termination fee
  • Ability to upgrade or downgrade your plan
  • Support for customers who want to bring a compatible phone

For most limited-data Tello plans, the data allowance can also be used for hotspot or tethering. The Unlimited plan works differently and currently includes a separate 10 GB hotspot allowance.

How Tello Billing Works

Tello plans operate on a 30-day billing cycle rather than a calendar month. Autopay normally renews your service on the 30th day, so the renewal date can gradually move relative to a traditional monthly billing date.

There are no annual contracts or early termination charges. If your needs change, you can select another Tello plan through your online account or the My Tello app.

There is one important point to understand before changing a plan: changes take effect immediately. When you switch plans, Tello charges for the new plan and begins a new 30-day cycle. The company does not prorate the unused portion of the previous plan.

Can Tello Data Roll Over?

Tello offers an unusual rollover option, but the rules differ depending on the plan.

For regular limited-data plans, unused data and minutes do not automatically roll over when normal Autopay occurs. However, customers can preserve eligible unused balances by manually renewing or changing their plan before the automatic renewal date, provided the new plan includes the same type of service.

The Unlimited plan works differently. Tello currently provides automatic rollover of unused high-speed data for Unlimited customers. Up to 50 GB of unused high-speed data can roll over from a billing cycle, with the total available high-speed balance accumulating up to 100 GB under the current program.

Tip: If you use a limited-data Tello plan and want to preserve unused data or minutes, review Tello’s current rollover rules before your Autopay date. Manually renewing early changes the beginning of your next 30-day cycle.

What Happens If You Run Out of Data?

Running out of data does not necessarily mean you have to wait for your next billing cycle. Tello provides several ways to add service.

Customers can purchase a Data Add-On, enable Data Auto-Refill on eligible plans, use Pay As You Go credit where applicable, or renew a monthly plan early.

Data Auto-Refill can automatically add 2 GB for $5 when an eligible plan’s available data falls below 500 MB. Data added during the cycle expires with that billing cycle, so customers who frequently need extra data may be better served by moving to the next regular plan tier.

Tello Family Plans

Tello also supports multiple lines under one account, but its approach to family service is different from the shared plans offered by many major carriers.

Each person can have a separate customized plan. One family member might use 2 GB per month while another uses 20 GB or Unlimited data. This can prevent households from paying for the same large data package on every line.

There is no shared data balance between family members, and each line can have its own activation and renewal date. Tello does not currently rely on a traditional multi-line family discount. Instead, each line receives the same standard low-cost plan pricing available to individual customers.

Are There Extra Fees With Tello?

Tello does not charge an early termination fee, and provider monthly fees are generally included in the advertised plan price. However, government taxes and regulatory surcharges can vary by billing location, so the final charge may be somewhat higher than the base plan price.

Tello currently lists a cost-recovery charge of up to 30 cents, while applicable taxes depend on location. Customers can view the applicable taxes and surcharges during checkout before completing an order.

Which Tello Plan Should You Choose?

The best Tello plan largely depends on how much cellular data you actually use:

  • Choose Starter if you are almost always on Wi-Fi and mainly need basic cellular connectivity.
  • Choose Everyday if you want enough mobile data for normal day-to-day smartphone use without paying for a larger allowance.
  • Choose Power if you regularly stream, browse, use navigation, or spend significant time away from Wi-Fi.
  • Choose Max Unlimited if you are a heavier mobile-data user or simply do not want to worry about staying below a smaller fixed allowance.
  • Build Your Own Plan if your needs do not fit neatly into one of the standard combinations.

One advantage of Tello’s model is that your initial choice does not have to be permanent. Because there is no annual contract, you can adjust the plan as your usage changes.

Why Consider Tello Mobile?

Tello Mobile is particularly attractive for customers who value low pricing and flexibility. Instead of requiring everyone to buy an unlimited plan, Tello allows light users to pay for a smaller amount of data while still providing higher-data choices for customers who need them.

The combination of 5G access, customizable plans, included hotspot use, unlimited texts, international calling features, and no long-term contract makes Tello worth considering for both primary and secondary phone lines.

It can be especially useful for individuals, students, seniors, families with different usage patterns, or anyone who is paying for far more cellular data than they actually use with a traditional wireless carrier.
