You can take Vonage home phone service with you—make and receive calls on your smartphones (standard data rates apply).
Take advantage of Vonage's great calling plans by making calls with the app on your smartphones. Plus, you can answer calls made to your Vonage phone number from almost anywhere using Wi-Fi or cellular coverage (standard data rates apply).
What is Vonage Extensions App?
The Vonage Extensions App links your iPhone or Android smartphone to your Vonage service. This allows you to take your Vonage phone with you and never miss a call or the chance to place an international call when you are not at home. Pick up incoming calls at home or on the go and intercept and return calls to up to 10 international phone numbers. All calls ring your Vonage home phone and up to three phones linked by the app.
- Place outgoing calls from any linked phone for the same rates as your Vonage home phone.
- Apply incoming and outgoing call settings. This includes turning off incoming calls to the app, blocking unwanted callers, selecting your outbound Caller ID display and specifying the connection type for outbound calls.
- Intercept incoming international calls and once intercepted, the Vonage system returns the call for the same low rates as your Vonage home phone using our latest feature called Boomerang.
You can also place calls over Wi-Fi, which is useful in low coverage areas or when traveling internationally.
Easy Setup
The Vonage® Extensions® app lets you use your Vonage home calling plan to make and receive calls on up to three smartphones. The app can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play store and linked to your Vonage service. You can then make and receive calls from the app over a Wi-Fi or cellular connection (standard data rates apply).
Take Your Calls to Home From Anywhere
You can answer an incoming call to your Vonage number as if you were at home. All calls to your Vonage for Home number, will ring your home phone and the app. You will know if an incoming call is to your Vonage for Home number or to your mobile number. Calls you make from the app will use your home Vonage for Home number as your caller ID. The app will use your phone’s contact book to provide a caller ID, so you know who is calling.
Use on Multiple Devices
You can download the app on up to three smartphones and link them to your Vonage home phone service, included at no additional charge. The app is available on iPhone® and Android™
Make International Calls
To place an international call, simply dial your access number (displayed in your online account), then enter your Extensions® PIN (same as your security PIN), and then dial the international destination number, including 011 plus the country code. You can also make international calls over cellular data (standard data rates apply) and Wi-Fi networks using the Extensions® app for iPhone® and Android™ devices.
Back in 2009, Vonage started offering a free mobile app. The Vonage Mobile® App is a powerful smartphone application that allows you to make phone calls, chat, and send text messages—all from a single app. The app requires live Internet connection, so data rates may apply if you’re not using a free Wi-Fi connection. Fortunately, free Wi-Fi is widely available in many countries these days. Having your smarthphone with Vonage Mobile App installed almost guarantees you free or at least cheap calls when you travel as most of hotels offer Wi-Fi as a free service. Calls are free when you call other Vonage Mobile users, no matter of your location, including when you’re overseas. This includes free texting, video chat, and video messaging. FREE is conditioned by your free Wi-Fi Internet. Otherwise, you may have to pay your data fees. It is a good idea to check your Internet connection prior using Vonage Mobile at your new location. In addition to free services used between Vonage Mobile users, all calls to any Vonage number are free of charge as well.
Outside of free services mentioned above, you can enjoy low per-minute rates to landline and mobile phones just as if you’re calling them from your home based Vonage phone. Keep in mind that some discrepancy between rates is possible, so it may be cheaper to call from your Vonage home phone or vice versa.
As a final note, always ensure you know what kind of data connection you use prior using Vonage Mobile App. This especially applies if your phone is in roaming mode when high data rates usually apply. Your best bet is a free Wi-Fi connection – at home or places like hotels or coffee shops.
In order to use Vonage Mobile App, you need to setup an account which is linked to your phone number. Up to five other mobile devices can be linked to one number. The installation starts by downloading and installing Vonage Mobile onto a primary device. Then, you do the same on other devices and you log in with same credentials in order to connect them to your primary account. Once setup, you can start using Vonage Mobile.
If you’re to make international calls at low rates, or to buy calling time, you need to have your credit card associated with your iTunes® or Google account. This is how you get charged for paid services of Vonage Mobile.
Your Vonage Mobile account is kept separate from your Vonage home phone account. Therefore, your app account is billed through iTunes® or Google account, while your home based Vonage account continues to be billed as per its own billing settings.
To use this free app, you don’t have to be a Vonage phone service subscriber. The app works on both iOS and Android™ devices. The supported devices are:
- iPhone 4 and higher (iOS 6.0 and higher)
- iPad (iOS 6.0 and higher)
- Android Phones (OS 2.3 and higher)
- Android Tablets (OS 3.2 and higher)
